Fibromyalgia – or Fibromyalgia syndrome as it’s now known – is a long-term chronic illness that causes pain all of the pain. But along with this, comes a whole plethora of symptoms. These include:
- Constant pain
- Extreme chronic fatigue
- Fibro fog
- Restless leg syndrome
- Crippling anxiety
- So many more. I’ve listed the ones that affect me most on a day to day basis
The problem with Fibromyalgia, is not only can doctors not make you better, but it’s an invisible illness so it’s hard for people to understand that you’re not a perfectly healthy and able person, but rather you’re battling the most difficult, relentless fight of your life.
But I’ve spent 4 years experimenting with as many different tablets, treatments. therapies etc. that I could get my hands on. And you know what? I went from being a morbidly obese, bed-bound 22 year old who couldn’t sleep at night from pain let alone work, to a slim, active young woman, who works full time in the advertising industry and commutes to London five days a week.
Now don’t get me wrong, my symptoms are very much still there. The difference is that I’m in control now, not my Fibromyalgia. I’ve found the perfect mix of medication, supplements, treatments, exercise and nutrition to fuel my body and remind Fibromyalgia who’s in charge here. And sometimes it does get overwhelming, some days I can’t face the work because of the pain and the fatigue, but I know that those days are the days not to hate my body for the illness running through it, but to worship it, nourish it, rest it.
Now, having got control over my own Fibromyalgia, I want to help others. People who are in pain and struggling, who’s doctors don’t give them the time and information that they need, who could be so much happier and healthier if they just had the knowledge of how to nurture their body and their illness.
